How to Stop Biting your Nails

It’s not something anybody likes to talk about let alone admit to strangers, but biting your nails is a bad habit that many people have in common. It may seem impossible to get rid of this habit, but I am here today to share my top tips based on how I stopped biting my nails. That’s right, I have been there, I know what it feels like and I know how difficult it can be to stop but I haven’t bitten my nails in 7 years now, so I know that with some discipline and determination we can all stop. How to Stop Biting your Nails

Today I am not going to share any special solution or product which you can apply on your nails to make them taste bad therefore help you stop. My nail biting was in fact quite extreme that even that didn’t help + the ingredients used in such products is not something we want to be putting in our bodies anyway. Here are my four tips that helped me to stop biting my nails once and for all:

1. Consider the WHY. 
Why are you biting your nails? In what situations do you find yourself biting your nails? Really dig deep here and be honest with yourself. Are you stressed out? Do you experience anxiety? Are you nervous around strangers? Do you worry a lot? And etc, etc. Probably it’s a mixture of all of this but when you understand why you are biting your nails you can begin to work on that rather the biting part and once you start being a more relaxed person you will find that you bite your nails less and less. Maybe you need to meditate more? Take care of yourself better? Practice self-love? It’s not always easy but you can do it! 

2. Find a reason why NOT to bite your nails
This is the one tip that helped me out the most. As silly as it may sound, I stopped biting my nails when I fell in love witha boy.  When I met this boy, I wanted to look and feel my best and I didn’t want him to feel or see my bitten nails and I didn’t want him to notice how damaged my nails and skin around them was and that was reason enough for me to almost completely stop biting my nails. If you are not in love, maybe you can find another reason that would be good enough for you to completely stop e.g. visualize your dream job and you being interviewed for it. Do you want to have bitten nails for that? ;) 

3. Find another source of stress relief
In many cases biting nails is simply a form of stress relief which is why it’s a good idea to try and find something else that you could do instead. Of course, try not to incorporate a new bad habit into your life but for the time try to find a better habit e.g. chewing gum or stress relief balls which you could do instead of biting your nails.

4. Make your nails look beautiful!
The more I painted my nails and the more I took care of them the less inclined I was to bite them. When I put effort into making my nails look as beautiful as possible the less likely I was to bite them so why not make them a priority in your beauty routine and give them the much need love and care they need and you might just realize that you are biting your nails less and less as well?
