New: 14 Free

We have just launched our new Spring-Summer 2018 collection and with that we also want to announce a new feature of our nail polish! As of our new collection, we are so excited to tell you that our nail polishes are 14 free!

What Changed?

You might wonder if we have a new recipe or formula. The answer is no; we still have our amazing recipe and therefore quality as we did before. We simply extended our “free of” list due to popular request. On top of the ingredients which we had already listed in our “free of” list we have no added seven more ingredients:

Ethyltosylamide, Triphenylphostphate, Colophoneum, Organic Halides (AOX), Silicone, Fragrances, Animal Derived Ingredients

This is because many of our customers messaged us asking if we include these ingredients in our formula and since we do not, we thought it better for everyone that we make it loud and clear. Like the seven other ingredients which we already included in our ›free from‹ list, the seven additional ingredients are also mostly plasticizers, solvents or preservatives that have been proven to be harmful to our health in some way.

What is ›free from‹ nail polish?

›Free of‹ nail polish is any nail polish that abstains from certain ingredients that are considered to be toxic or can be harmful to our health. Until today, the most common labels have been “3 free”, “5 free” and “7 free” meaning that the nail polish does not include this amount of some of the more toxic ingredients commonly used in nail polish. ›free from‹ nail polishes are an amazing alternative for those who are looking for a healthier option to conventional nail polish.

To this day, there is no official label or certificate which grants a nail polish their free of label or list. This basically means that every brand can say what they like as long as what they say is true. This does unfortunately pose some confusion and leaves room for interpretation. This is also why the ›free of list‹ varies from nail polish to nail polish.

You may have noticed that it is near impossible to find a 100% natural or certified natural cosmetics nail polish, or at least one with good quality i.e long lasting, opaque and quick dry. With nail polish it is more about finding a better option to the conventional ones and this is what “free from” nail polishes are. While there was never any official list of what is “3 free”, “5 free”, “ 7 free”, etc. nail polish there was however a general guideline which you would read on many blogs or hear from professionals (of course this is also varied) and this is the guideline we chose to stick to on previous collections. However, we quickly realized that, especially the German market, is definitely more advanced and in their “free from” list and they want to make sure that not only are the seven most well-known harmful ingredients not included in their nail polish but also some of the less known. Since we are a German brand and we are in stores all over Germany, it was important that we adapt to the market. Also, many brands are starting to extend their “free of” list as customers become more knowledgeable and demanding which we think is amazing.

Our 14 Free list

We do not include the 13 most harmful ingredients + any animal derived ingredients, which is what forms our 14 free formula:

Phtalates (incl. Dibutylphthalate (DBP), Diethylhexyl Phthalate (DEHP)), Toluene (also Methylbenzene), Xylene, Camphor, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, Ethyltosylamide, Triphenylphostphate, Colophoneum, Organic Halides (AOX), Parabens, Silicone, Fragrances, Animal Derived Ingredients

All in all, it is our mission to create a nail polish which is a perfect mix in being amazing in quality, less toxic, vegan and cruelty-free and of course eco-friendly and we love the result.

We hope you could learn a little bit more about “free of” nail polishes.

Lots of Love,
Kia
