Why Vegan?

In today’s video Kia shares the 3 most common reasons people choose a vegan lifestyle and also why Kia herself became vegan 5 years ago and ultimately why starting a 100% vegan company was so important to her. We hope you enjoy!

ReasonsWhy Vegan?

The three most common reasons why Kia and really anyone chooses to lead a vegan lifestyle or simply choose more vegan options are:

1.  For the animals
Almost everyone loves their pets or other more exotic animals such as elephants, koalas, zebras, etc. but most would never even consider eating them. Realizing that there really is no difference to the animals on our plates to the animals we love and call our pets, Kia chose to not contribute to the cruelty that happens within the animal agriculture industry anymore. 59 billion animals are killed each year for our food alone, a number which is difficult to even begin to understand but we know it’s a lot.

There are several ethical factors to why people choose to not consume dairy or animal products anymore. Make sure to check out some of the links and resources down below for more information. We also suggest taking the time to watch the documentary ›Earthlings‹ to learn more about what animal agriculture really does to animals.

 2. For the environment
Animal agriculture is actually one of the most pollutant industries in the world e.g. it’s easy to think that the leading cause of global warming is transportation however research shows that 51% of the global greenhouse gas emissions is due to animal agriculture. On top of that 91% of rainforest destruction (consequently also species distinction) is due to livestock (after all, the 39 million cattle and calves that are killed each year in the U.S alone need someplace to “live”). This livestock also needs food and water and in fact, just 1 burger equates to an average of 2 months of showers for one person which means a lot of the worlds clean water resources go to the food we eat.

This blog post would be the length of a book if we listed all the environmental impacts of animal agriculture however we suggest watching the documentary “Cowspiracy” (available o Netflix) to learn more and also have a quick look at their infographic here:

3. For health
The final yet perhaps one of the most popular reasons people switch to a vegan diet are the proven health benefits. A vegan diet is naturally rich in fiber which improves your bowel movements which in turn leads to better health. A vegan diet is also naturally abundant in all the vitamins, nutrients and minerals which your body requires to feel healthy and to thrive. Many people have experienced healthier and clearer skin after switching to a vegan diet and, because a vegan diet is lower in unhealthy fats, people often experience weight loss as well.

If you are interested in learning more about the health benefits of a vegan diet, make sure to watch the documentaries “forks over knives” and “what the health” as well as have a look at some of the resources listed below.

Thank you for your time for watching todays video and we hope you could learn something new. Any small or big contribution matters and we challenge you to make at least 1 vegan choice a day whether that be in your food, cosmetics or clothing. The animals and the environment will thank you!

Lots of Love,
Your Kia-Charlotta team
